As of 2007 the New York Times and several other credible sources have wrote articles debunking the myths about the risks of first cousins matrimony. The standard risk for genetic, physical or mental abnormalities in a standard pregnancy is 2.6-4% average of a chance. The risk factor for a pregnancy between first cousins is an average of 3,8%. That's only a one percent higher chance. And that 1% chance is what is excluding some American citizens from validating their loving relations here in Oregon just like any other couple. It is already legal in 20+ other states in this amazing country stretching from FL to CA. Oregon is supposed to be a progressive state that uses facts and logic to pass its laws, and it seems asinine that we still have an outdated law prohibiting first cousins from being able to marry when there is such minimal risk of a negative consequence. I thought we were supposed to have equal rights for everyone?
