Divest from Private Prisons in Oregon

It is time for elected officials to put their money where their mouth is. Oregon Governor Kate Brown has said many times she opposes the detention and deportation of immigrants. Yet the Oregon Public Employees Retirement Fund invests heavily in “private,” prison providers like CoreCivic. CoreCivic manages many notorious immigration detention facilities like the one in Eloy, Arizona, where many vulnerable immigrants have died while in custody. If Governor Brown and her state employees truly feel so strongly opposed to the detention and deportation of immigrants, they need to stop profiting from the detention and deportation of immigrants. Please sign this if you want Oregon Governor Kate Brown to divest from “private,” prison companies.
Divesting from "private," prison companies can send a clear, powerful message that you and your community do not support the mass imprisonment and arbitrary detention of human beings. People should not be bartered for a profit by companies, no matter how many powerful friends they have in government.
