Dear fellow citizens of Lane County nobody can deny, that we leave the new courthouse that is beyond dispute. However, last time this issue was brought to the voters it failed miserably! I believe that this was due to a lack of clear communication on the part of the local government to underscore the importance to the people of the county of the new and modern courthouse. To underscore my point, I thought I would share a personal story in January 2018 I received my first jury duty notice. I was excited to do my civic duty upon arrival at the courthouse however, my hopes were severely damaged I found a courthouse that was almost inaccessible for people who use wheelchairs as I do. In addition to things like doors being too small for my chair to fit through there was also not an adequate evacuation plan for individuals with mobility issues in case of an emergency! I left my jury duty service that they feeling dejected. Now more than ever, as our population continues to grow it is important that we upgrade our facility so that all people can be full members of the community thank you very much for your supportTo close, I wish to reiterate that your support for this petition when not just help greater facilities it would do much more than that it will help build a more just and equitable and open society.
