New camera fee hike by Karnataka Forest Departmemt-The Hindu

The Karnataka Forest Department has recently hiked the camera charges effective from April 2021. The fee for cameras with interchangeable lenses has been hiked from ₹200 to ₹250 per unit per trip. For lenses with a zoom ranging from 70 mm to 200 mm, an additional ₹750 has to be paid per unit per trip while for use of lens beyond 500 mm the authorities have pegged the rate at ₹1,500 per unit per trip. The reason for the hike as per the department is " There was an increase in the number of commercial photographers frequenting the tiger reserves and national parks and it was necessary to regulate it with a fee hike. This is vague, First of all 99% of the wildlife photographers do it as a passion/hobby or for creating awareness towards the flora and fauna to the general public through social medias, and do not earn a sigle penny out of it. Secondly, to regulate the frequency of visitors, there is a cap for the safari and lodging in the tiger reserve for how many people can visit the national park in a day and the safari fee itself is high which affects the general public who wants to visit the lodges with their family. For instance, to visit the Kabini Back waters lodges owned by Jungle Lodges and Resorts, Govt. Of Karnataka, an individual has to spend a minimum of Rs.9000/person/night including GST that includes accomodation, food and 2 safaris apart from this camera charges of Rs. 750- 1500/ trip makes it 3000 for two safari. So Rs.12000/- is beyond a common man can afford.
The forest deprtment should consider the customers as general public instead of considering them as commercial photographers and can find other ways to control the visitors, rather than increasing the fee.New camera fee hike by Karnataka Forest Departmemt-The Hindu
