Making a change in the dress code would greatly impact the amount of objectifying that is done to the young women at our school. The dress code is unfair because it mostly targets the women attending Monache. A young woman attending MHS must always: "cover undergarments, never show any portion of your stomach, never wear a halter top, wear shorts that are as long as your longest finger tip when arms are extended at ones side, etc..." Pulling girls from class, or preventing them from even reaching their class because of "dress code violation," is teaching young girls that it's their responsibility to not "distract" boys at the school. A young girl's responsibility at school is her education. Multiple sections in the dress code indicate that if violating the code one is being "sexually suggestive." If anyone is sexualizing young women between the ages of 13-17, YOU are the problem. Dress codes are perpetuating rape culture and oppressive objectification towards women.
