We, the undersigned Karen civilians are calling on the KNU to reform its current leadership by dismissing the current leaders including Saw Mu Tu Say Poe and other pro Burmese government and pro- NCA (National Ceasefire Agreement) leaders.

Since the Burmese military coup on 1st February 2021, it became even clearer that the sham NCA will never bring peace for our Karen people, as the Burmese military is not interested in peace. Instead, we have seen more Burmese military offensives, more displacement and more humanitarian crises.

While we value and recognise the importance of our political struggle led by the Karen National Union, we are also sad to see some of the top KNU leaders are no longer upholding their commitment to lead the Karen struggle for self-determination, freedom and equality for our Karen people.

Regretfully, decades of divide and rules tactic used by successive Burmese governments has been causing disunity among our Karen people and polarised our community. We do not think that the current leadership has the ability to bring our people together and continue to lead our struggle. As a result, we no longer have confidence in their political leadership and call on them to make space for new leaders.
