My grandfather is a 70-year-old man who committed a white-collar crime which he was made to serve an 8-year sentence to be released in 5. He has completed his 5-year sentence and on the last month before his release, he was told he would be detained and sent back to New Zealand, even though he came here in the 80s when it wasn't a requirement to even have a visa to move to Australia from New Zealand, due to our so-called 'strong Trans-Tasman relations with our neighbouring country' He is not a violent man, he is a loving family man who's suffered 6 lockdown's behind bars without any visitation from family or even allowed to drop things off to them, but having to send everything via post which then had to go through quarantine and would take even longer to get our loved ones anything at all, all the while they couldn't even be huggged or seen by his loved ones for months on end, this has had an extremely troubling affect on particular my nan's mental health, whom is a retired Registered Nurse. An inspiration to me, whom i intend to follow in her footsteps and become a nurse to help look after people in our community. What a noble position, what a loving woman and this is how we treat her after all her hard work and years of service to our country as a front line health care worker. How can we tear our families apart like this?
