Jessica Perini started this petition to Karen Andrews MP and Alex Hawke

Adnan and his cousin Mehdi are just two of several young men who arrived as children, and have been held so long in Australian immigration detention they’ve now become adults.

They have been found to be refugees, and have been accepted into the US.

Yet still, inexplicably, they remain in detention. Detention is no place for anyone, let alone vulnerable young men, so we are urgently calling on Ministers Hawke and Andrews to set them free.

Adnan and his cousin Mehdi arrived when they were only 15 and 16, and for nearly nine years of their precious young lives, they have been shuttled from country to country, from one detention centre to the next.

They have seen horrors we cannot imagine. Beyond troubles in their homelands, they have lived in unsanitary conditions in mouldy tents, with strangers, and under constant ‘supervision’ Adnan and Mehdi and the others have witnessed violence, hunger strikes and suicide attempts, and successful suicides, a murder, and have been assaulted, all while under the supervision of the Australian government.

They have lost their opportunities for education, for free play, for normal experiences afforded to teenagers and young men. They have been deprived of essential time with loved ones.

The cousins have family in Australia. Every day their family asks when they will finally be reunited.

Supporters have offered to house the other young men and provide for their needs. So there should be no bar to their freedom.

That can happen today, at the stroke of a pen. Ministers Alex Hawke and Karen Andrews this power is in your hands.

It’s time to let them live.

While we wish to draw special attention to these young men, we also support the #GameOver campaign to end mandatory indefinite detention for all.

Thank you, everyone, for your valuable support.

Please share this petition with all your networks.
