KARACHI IS SINKING!

WE NEED TO RAISE OUR VOICES BEFORE ITS TOO LATE. 

Karachi is the largest city in Pakistan and the seventh largest city in the world. It is the financial hub of the country, contributing more than 70% in the country’s revenues and approximately 95% in the province’s revenues, yet it has been deprived of the basic infrastructural facilities since as far as we can remember. 

The rain in the past few days prove that the city’s sewage system has failed us.

The govt knew about the weather forecast but they chose to do nothing.

The city's haphazard planning is the primary cause of urban flooding.

Roads are laid end to end, with no concept of service roads. There is no drainage accommodation.

If we had been prepared with the proper infrastructure in place, the damage wouldn’t have been this bad.

So far, 135 people have been KILLED and hundreds of people have become HOMELESS. Many people are still MISSING. These are only the numbers that have been confirmed, it can be much higher.

Every year, the Sindh government begins cleaning work on nullahs that are filled in with garbage, but this isn't a solution to the problem.

Every year, once the roads dry up and the garbage gets disposed we tend to forget the horror of our past. We get busy in our daily lives and forget what we had to go through. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH.

The root causes are NEVER addressed and the garbage will be disposed of in the drains as long as the city does not implement a proper solid waste management system.

We therefore request all the authorities to take up this matter with utmost urgency and resolve the issues of Karachi after setting aside their political differences. 

Karachiites have come forward and helped the fellow countrymen whenever natural calamities have befallen on our mother nation, it is now time that Karachi needs the entire nation to plead to its leaders to revive the city to its glory.
