Reduce greenhouse gas emissions by vehicles

The Problem my peers and I are trying to chip away at, is the harmful emission of greenhouse gases by vehicles. Sufficient research has been done to conclude that if a majority of the population simply chooses the right cars and properly maintains them, it will significantly decrease the amount of harm caused by these toxic emissions. One should not be able to drive a poorly maintained car, or especially a vehicle that burns less than 10 miles per gallon. I understand that it is impossible to completely get rid of gasoline operated cars as our economy heavily relies on it, but an increased promotion for hybrid cars and/or electrical cars would do this planet good. The reason why we care abut this issue is to preserve not only the beauty of this earth, but to save many lives in the future. This solution affects my peers and I because we live in a time period where gas prices are skyrocketing and by decreasing the demand for gasoline by properly taking care of your car, prices could become more affordable.
