The Kano Zoological and Botanical garden was established in 1972 at the greenest spot in the city, and it has remained green eversince. Today, the 48-year old establishment is in danger of being closed. With no clear indication of what will happen to the animals, or the numerous indigenous tree species that have supported human life in the community for ages.

The current Kano State Government under Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has announced that the zoological garden will be relocated miles away from the city. It hurts us to say that this decision will leave the surrounding neighbourhoods literally gasping for breath as it remains the largest protected ecosystem in one of the most densely settled cities with the worst air quality indices in Africa.

We REFUSE to stay silent when it comes to caring for the environment and the planet we live in. We REFUSE to sit back and give up on our fight to prevent extinction. We do not only reject this move, but also condemn it in it's entirety.
And because of that, we’ve now reached the point where we desperately NEED YOUR HELP. SIGN THE PETITION. SAVE KANO ZOOLOGICAL AND BOTANICAL GARDENS.
