This school year 2021-2022, Kanawha County is returning to school on Monday, August 9th 2020. Besides the year round school, this is the earliest start date in the entire state. The last day is Monday, May 23, 2021. Let’s be real here, how many are really going to show up on a Monday for the last day?

With virtual (e-learning) now being an option, why not give the kids work to do on their breaks (like Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc). The children that do not have virtual access could be given packets. Then the 180 day requirement could be met and school could start closer to Labor Day and let out closer to Memorial Day.

The excuse of starting early to end the first semester before the the winter break is ridiculous. Every generation before this managed to finish their finals when they returned from break.

If you are tired of losing summer time with your kids then please sign this petition! 
We the people demand longer summer breaks for our children!

(realisticly, this won’t change the start date this year as we are so close to school starting and teachers and staff are already back to work. My hope is this will help the board make better decisions in the future.)
