Barnhartvale Road is unsafe for cyclists, pedestrians and drivers.

This road is scheduled to be repaved in June 2020.  It is imperative that it includes a safe space for cyclists and pedestrians and to allow motorists ample room to commute without endangering lives.

The City of Kamloops has made it clear they have no plan for a designated bike /pedestrian path-but there are creative alternatives, (wider shoulder, dividing line), that could dramatically improve safety on this road. Traffic on this thoroughfare has increased substantially with heavy industrial truck traffic and non-local drivers creating a potentially deadly situation.

Barnhartvale road has become a popular cycling destination for tourists and local riders. If the City of Kamloops wants to encourage tourism, healthy living, alternative green transportation options and safety of it's citizens it needs to change this now.

We appeal to the City of Kamloops to consider the safety and wellness of it's citizens by adding a paved shoulder and a marked dividing line to Barnhartvale road during the re-paving process.
