Have the City of Kamloops fly the pride flag for the parade

Mayor and Council,

I have attached a petition that I would like to present to Council. The petition has been open for 3 weeks and garnered 371 signatures. The reason for the petition is outlined below:

Last year, Kamloops City Council was asked to fly the Pride flag at city hall during the City's inaugural Pride parade. Council voted no. They said the second flag pole at city hall is for special occasions and visitors to the city, as per the current flag policy.

For many of us, Pride is a time to celebrate who we are without judgement or persecution. It's a time to put differences aside and just love. LGBTQ2+ are a big part of Kamloops. We pay taxes, we volunteer and get involved in some of the events that make this city a great place to be, and I think that the city standing with us and supporting us is long overdue.

There's still change to be made in Canada. 59% of violent hate crime in Canada is targeted at LGBTQ2+. It is time for the City of Kamloops to stand alongside us, and support us by flying the flag for Pride 2018.

Our ask is that Kamloops City Council review this flag policy and fly the flag for Pride 2018. If the flag pole is reserved for visitors to the City, why can't it be used for those of us who already live here?
