Dear Staff and students 

             I, Mia Ellis, the undersigned, by signing this document want to gather your thoughts about the proposition 18 allowing 17-year-olds to vote in primary and special elections if they will turn 18 by the subsequent general election. ​

Voting YES on Proposition 18 is important to us as a society because it allows individuals who participate in our community everyday to use their voice. Many 17 year olds keep up with politics and are active in fighting for what they believe in, so giving them the chance to speak up and vote would benefit them and who they support. Although this proposition was voted against in California before, there's no telling if it could come up in the polls. Allowing 17 year olds to get the head start to vote and become active in politics can teach them more responsibility and pay more attention to how our country is run. Many teens are already active in their community, they work, advocate for their schools, etc. If they're going to be 18 by the time of the election anyways, what's the problem with allowing them to have a say in something that will be affecting them and their community? Vote YES on Proposition 18.
