Abegail Singson started this petition to Senator Kamala D. Harris and

Proposition 18 would allow 17 year olds who will be 18 at the time of the next general election to vote in primaries and special elections. Unfortunately, California has voted against this proposition. Why? People support the idea of the proposition boosting youth participation in the elections. Due to the youth being underrepresented in the electoral process. The organizations supporting these propositions are ACLU of Southern California and Democracy for America. Both these organizations support the idea of youth representation.

It is clear that most people don't agree with this proposition, hence why it was voted against. People disagree with this proposition because they believe that the mind does not fully develop until mid 20s, which implies that they don’t think teenagers have the capability to vote. But if 18 year olds are already able to vote why not give them a head start?

Kevin Mullen started this proposition following his father before him. Mullen states that “Young people are directly affected by issues like employment initiatives, affordable housing and education funding,” Mullin stated. They have what I would call “skin in the game” on these and other issues and I believe we should be looking for ways to amplify their voices. ACA 4 does just that.”

Although this proposition was voted against in the past it may or may not reappear in the polls, Vote YES for Proposition 18 allowing 17 year olds to get a head start on voting!
