Safety of children at Kendriya Vidyalaya-1 road at Uppal

This petition relates to the road safety of over 2,000 children at Kendriya Vidyalaya-1, Uppal. The school abuts the busy section of National Highway No. 163 that connects Hyderabad to Raipur.

Despite the presence of traffic police near prestigious private schools during their closure time, none of cops would man the road stretch of KV-1, Uppal, to regulate traffic for the safety of children. Is this negligence shown because it is a government school? Would the commissioner of police mind deploy a constable for regulating the traffic during the opening and closing hours of the school?

When the school shuts for the day at 2.30 pm, the road gets chock-a-block with TSRTC buses and private commercial vehicles parking on either sides of the road. This creates difficult time for parents who come to pickup the children. I request the government and police to direct drivers of RTC buses and commercial vehicles to park their buses away from the school. Or alternatively, procure some land from Survey of India for the parking of vehicles that come to pickup children.

In the wake of accidents involving children, it is high time that the state government and police department take notice of the issue and address it expeditiously.
