Take action on the Corrupt Kotedar

I am from Birpur gram panchayat of Majhgawan block of Satna district of Madhya Pradesh. http://www.cgnetswara.org/index.php?id=14339

3 villages of Birpur panchayat comprising mostly of Dalit and tribal families were provided with PDS ration cards only in 2007. We rely heavily on the government public distribution system (PDS) for our food supplies. But for the last two years, the distribution shop has remained closed and we have not received our monthly subsidised ration.

Kunaku, the Kotedar of the village, has denied us our share and has instead been supplying the provisions in the black market. He has also ridiculed us and told us to approach the collector, assuming that we ‘villagers’ will never be able to.

After a dharna at the block office for 6 days, we are petitioning the District Magistrate of Satna, K. K. Khare, to set an example and

1. Provide us our complete share of monthly ration immediately
2. Take action on Kotedar Kunaku for embezzling the provisions meant for poor tribal and dalit families.

Help us restore the PDS in our village. Call District Magistrate of Satna, K. K. Khare at 9479479781 or 07672- 222911 and ask him to take action

Letter to
District Collector, Satna K.K. Khare, District Collector, Satna
42 families from 3 villages of Birpur panchayat comprising mostly of Dalit and tribal families were provided with PDS ration cards only in 2007. They rely heavily on the government public distribution system (PDS) for their food supplies. But for the last two years, the distribution shop has remained closed and they have not received their monthly subsidised ration.

Kunaku, the Kotedar of the village, has denied them their share and has instead been supplying the provisions in the black market. He has also ridiculed them and told them to approach the collector, assuming that ‘villagers’ will never be able to do so.

They went on a dharna at the block office for 6 days, and started a petition (http://www.change.org/en-IN/petitions/k-k-khare-district-collector-satna-resume-operations-of-the-ration-shop-in-birpur-panchayat ) . More than 8700 people from across India have signed this petition
asking you to set an example against this corruption and

1. Provide them their complete share of monthly ration immediately
2. Take action on Kotedar Kunaku for embezzling the provisions meant for poor tribal and dalit families.

The Kotedar responded immediately by providing most families with 100 kilos of wheat and 28 kilos of rice. But that is not an excuse or a solution for looting these families of their food.

I stand in solidarity with Rajkumar and Maina from Birpur panchayat and as a concerned citizen I ask you to take action on the corrupt Kotedar immediately and resume PDS operations for all the 42 families.

I look forward to you immediate action.
