Why this petition matters

Juveniles should have the possibility of parole because they are still underdeveloped and have the chance to rehabilitate. Juveniles lose a large amount of brain tissue in their teenage years which qualifies them for programs to change their behaviors. The part of the brain that loses tissue if the frontal cortex, which is where decision making takes place. With the tissue missing, the youth are incapable of harsh punishment. During young ages, children are known to be more vulnerable to peer-pressure. Typically, juveniles will act out to please an older person that they look up to. One last reason that juveniles should get the possibility of parole is because some offenses take place because of the juvenile's living environment in their young ages. Juveniles are influenced by what they are surrounded by, so if they have a dangerous household or criminal family members they will more likely offend. Juveniles should have the opportunity to rehabilitate. There are several programs to help get these children on the right path. Forever is a long time. Sign the petition to change sentences for juveniles to get parole!
