More and more people are being affected by poor mental health. 1 in 4 people are affected by poor mental health at some point in their lives. For many of us it starts at a young age.
We believe that something needs to change.
Children in primary schools are not taught about mental wellbeing or poor mental health, they are therefore unaware when they are affected by it. In addition to this most parents are unaware of the signs of poor mental health in their children so are unable to tell that they are suffering. If poor mental health is caught at a younger age it can be acted on quickly and prevented from worsening.
Many children and young people are failed by the mental health services because they have been left unaided for too long. But if children are helped earlier or taught how to help themselves this could change.
For a lot of young people it is their school which first notices a problem. This may be because the young person's grades are slipping or they are acting up in class.
Children's education should not have to suffer before somebody realises they are struggling.
Please help us to make mental health as much a part of learning as school council elections.
