Make Islam a compulsory topic in Religious Education

Many children do not have any understanding of the Islamic faith, and at present children without any knowledge of the religion are making dangerous connections between ISIS and Islam that need to be corrected. If left unaddressed, this could potentially create further prejudices towards Muslims.
This has come to my attention more so now than ever, with the steady rise in hate crimes following recent ISIS attacks.
My petition to you is to request that Islam is made a compulsory topic to be covered in schools that teach Religious Education, as Islam is now not only one of the largest religions in the world, it now is extremely current and relevant.
Broadening general understanding of Islam will help children differentiate between the religion and the extremist ideologies of ISIS who claim to act in the name of Islam, and will help to reduce unjust and unnecessary prejudices towards Muslims.
Although we want all schools to adopt the idea of learning more about Islam as soon as possible, it is especially urgent for primary school children to learn about different beliefs as they are ostensibly more impressionable, as well as being more open to learning about different beliefs.
