On September 28, 2020, Joyce Echaquan died while admitted to Joliette Hospital. Minutes before her death, she went on Facebook Live for the world to witness the racial slurs thrown at her while excessive doses of morphine were being administered - a medication, which she was allergic to.

The Indigenous Health Centre of Tiohtià:ke, an organization working to develop a culturally safe, holistic health centre for the Indigenous population living in Montreal, is tired of the systemic racism that is running rampant throughout Quebec's healthcare system. For far too long, we have watched as the Government of Quebec ignores the plight of the Indigenous People living both on reserve and in urban centres.

It is time to act! A letter has been drafted in French and in English that will be sent to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as well as Premiers and Health Ministers across Canada to denounce systemic racism in Quebec and promote the establishment of a health centre dedicated to the Indigenous Community; a cultural centre providing a safe environment for health and social services and community prosperity.
