We see the under-representation of Indigenous people as authority figures in the child welfare field, as well as an increased concern raised with the welfare of Indigenous families. We believe that every parent should have a right to educate, to provide shelter, to access healthcare services and to maintain physical and emotional well being of their own children. As responsible advocates, it is our goal to raise awareness and to take positive steps in eradicating social injustices that are being committed on Indigenous Children in Canada. The aftermath of the residential school system has resulted in socioeconomic challenges that tend to define these families and ultimately resulting in discrimination. We also see that Indigenous children and families lack resources, funding, and are being treated unequally in the Canadian Society. Our focus is to find ways to stop discriminatory practices and to lobby for the legislation aimed to provide a suitable level of funding for the families of Indigenous children. The idea is to invest and prevent the number of Indigenous children going into welfare. Addressing the apparent issues should be more important, instead of taking them from their homes.
