Currently the laws are not clear or strong enough to prevent or tackle the issue of Cyber Bullying which presents a very serious threat to the well being of children and adults alike.  The issue lies in the reality of what a parent or anyone can do to stop it from happening or continuing.  For it to be considered illegal in Canada it needs to fall under the following (which can be found http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cycp-cpcj/bull-inti/index-eng.htm

Criminal Harassment - Repeated tormenting online, with texts, phone calls, and/or emails causing the other person to fear for their safety

Child pornography - Sharing intimate photos and videos of minors (under the age of 18)

Uttering Threats and Extortion - Threatening to share someone's personal information to others if they don't do what you want them to do

Assault - Threats or acts of non-consensual force, violence, bodily harm, or destruction of personal property

Identity Theft/Fraud - Creating a fake online profile to ruin someone's reputation

Defamatory Libel - Spreading rumors about someone

The RCMP have posted that you need to report these to CYBERTIP.CA where they will be researched to determine if an investigation is warranted or whether charges may be laid.

The problem with the above is at what point and how bad does it have to get before something is done.  We need to ensure that there can be something done to enable the law to act swiftly to stop the bullies in their tracks I respectfully request the government introduce stronger legislation to prevent and stop the Cyber Bullies.
