Shorten Medical Wait Times in Canada

Many people consider Canadian health care system as one of the best in the world, but the long waiting times for treatment is causing Canadians time, money and health.
A survey by the Fraser Institute found "a median wait of 20 weeks for “a median waiting time of 20.0 weeks between referral from a general practitioner and receipt of treatment—longer than the wait of 18.3 weeks reported in 2015. This year’s wait time—the longest ever recorded in this survey’s history—is 115% longer than in 1993, when it was just 9.3 weeks"(Baruas).
This situation needs to be improved because the impacts that long wait times have on patients are enormous. Patients' conditions can get worse; the risk of complications can increase, the stress and mental anguish that goes along with uncertain wait times are also significant. In addition, not only the patients are dissatisfied with the current medical care system, a poll conducted by Ipsos-Reid shows about 83% of doctors believe there is an "urgent" need to fix Canada's health-care system (“Health Polls”).
Clearly, actions have to be taken. If people do not take useful means, the wait times may become longer and longer, and some undesirable results may come out unexpectedly.
Thus, on the occasion of the May 2017 Provincial Election, we demand the government of Canada to increase funding, upgrade the health care system in Canada, as well as to allow the existence of independent or private institutions that are not financed by governments through Canadian public health insurance plans.
