Under the Canada-United States Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), which entered into force on July 1, 2020, Canada will extend its general term of copyright protection from 50 years after the life of the author to 70 years after the life of the author. This extension of copyright terms favours very few and often works are lost before they enter public domain. To avoid an inevitable loss of our culture and to help progress sciences and arts through the sharing of ideas we call upon the Canadian Government to shorten general copyright terms to 15 years after life.
