First Nation children and Youth living on reserve receive significantly less in terms of funding for their education that children and Youth going to school anywhere else in Canada. The education on reserve is funded by the Federal government and the provincial and territorial government funds the off-reserve education. First Nation children and youth receive $ 2000 to 300 less per year per student than children and youth attending off reserve school.  This translates to First Nation children not having access to libraries, science equipments, gym, and learning resources for special needs student. Some First Nation students are attending schools that are in deplorable conditions and pose serious contamination, carbon dioxide levels, rodent infestation, sewage and inadequate and lack of heat.  This is unacceptable.  Prime Minister Justin Trudeau promised in 2015 to invest a total of $ 2.5 billion in First Nation education over four years and $ 500 million over three years in infrastructure for First Nations schools. The Prime Minister also promised $ 500 million for post-secondary support program, which provides financial assistance for Indigenous people attending post-secondary education. The Liberal government has not held up to this promise, despite pressure from Aboriginal advocate to move beyond words and provide actual funding for Aboriginal education needs. The failure to keep these promises will mean that First Nation children and Youth will be denied equal opportunity to education. It will be mean that First Nation children and Youth will be denied to resources, facilities, and educational environment that children and Youth from the across Canada take for granted. It will mean the continuation of systemic discrimination and underfunding of First Nation School that has been taking place for decades.  Thousands for Aboriginal and non-aboriginal children, students and teachers and citizens believe that racial discrimination against First Nation children and Youth is not a legitimate fiscal restraint.  WE, stand with Shannen’s Dream Advocate, which is a Youth-driven movement that promote equity in education and First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada to advocate for building safe and comfortable schools on reserve and for culturally -based education for all First Nations children and youth.
