We are all here on earth to help others; what on earth the others are here for I don't know.
W. H. Auden

Here are two facts that should not both be true:
- There is sufficient food produced in the world every year to feed every human being on the planet.
- Nearly 800 million people literally go hungry every day, with more than a third of the earth's population -- 2 billion men and women -- malnourished one way or another, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.”
― Michael Dorris, Rooms in the House of Stone: The "Thistle" Series of Essays

It's easy for people in an air-conditioned room to continue with the policies of destruction of Mother Earth. We need instead to put ourselves in the shoes of families in Bolivia and worldwide that lack water and food and suffer misery and hunger. Evo Morales

Close to a billion people - one-eighth of the world's population - still live in hunger. Each year 2 million children die through malnutrition. This is happening at a time when doctors in Britain are warning of the spread of obesity. We are eating too much while others starve. Jonathan Sacks

I work in high-tech. The work I do is targeting white-collar jobs for automation. Unemployment is about to skyrocket.

Done reasonably well, this should eliminate child poverty.

If the government wanted to, they could probably make a law change that benefits every single one of you. That change could make a law that fixes a huge problem for you have that you care quite a lot about that very few people have in exchange for making other laws each of which remove great harm from a few people other than you and harm you slightly. One of the problems those extra laws could solve is an economic collapse. Do you want the government to treat your huge problem the same as poverty and not fix it because the majority of people are against making a sacrifice to get it fixed? I'm sure the other people will agree that they would rather have a law that orders them to make that small sacrifice than not have a law that fixes their huge problems.

It's time we started making creative changes to evolve into a country we can be proud of. Good economics and compassionate policy making do not have to be mutually exclusive. Prime Minister Trudeau, please show leadership on this issue the way you made us proud with your cabinet appointments. The world is watching. Show the international community that we are creating the Canada we've always wanted, and they can too!

While it is great that child tax helps those with kids & OAP helps pensioners; it is a FACT that single working age adults are the forgotten poor. "Single working-age
adults comprised 40.4
per cent of the poor
population in 2011
compared to 19.0 per
cent 30 years ago." quote from Poverty Trends Highlights 2013. The fact is a single person still must pay the same bills as a couple but with none of the benefits. This is compounded by low wage jobs without benefits. How do you live on $1200 a month? You don't you exist.

There is a whole generation that is paying way too much to get an education & there is no guarantee of a decent living wage once school is done. Society has created a horrible system to create huge levels of debt for the youth & the next generation in Canada.Leaving too many of us without a much hope for a decent future...
