DEAR PRIME MINISTER:
You promised major efforts to eliminate poverty in Canada during the 2015 election campaign. The recent announcements to further support chidren in poverty and low income families is admirable. Support for middle income Canadians is also worthwhile.
However, Canada has addressed poverty for generations without success by adding a multiplicity of social economic programmes that have become expensive to provide and serve to inflate the ranks of the public service. Current economic assitance programmes for various Canadians are confusing. All three levels of government must get together to resolve and modernize the system. Duplication must be eliminated and fairness assured.
Numerous existing programmes can be replaced or enhanced by instituting a BASIC INCOME STRATEGY in Canada. Much research has been done and many attempts have been proposed and tested. You have already demonstrated that Canada and the Provinces can work in harmony. This is the main reason that it is time to take that bold step toward the elimination of POVERTY.
Many Canadians support a Basic Income Guarantee. Mssny more will come on board. Your leadership has given hope to the poor and the many who are underemployed as well to the many parents who often see their chidren go off to school hungry. We respectfully request that you adopt a "BASIC INCOME PROGRAMME" in Canada without further delay.
