Our goal is to change the Oath of Citizenship to be more inclusive to Indigenous People
Act 94 States:
"Replace the Oath of Citizenship with the following: I swear (or affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, Her Heirs, and Successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada including treaties with Indigenous Peoples, and fulfill my duties as a Canadian citizen."
It is our duty as Canadians to engage with the government's ongoing calls to action as identified by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Addressing, Call to Action number 94 would highlight to new Canadians the importance of recognizing our indigenous communities in Canada. As Canadians, it is imperative that we all understand and recognize the history Canada shares with our indigenous people and that we moved forward towards healthy relations.
This call to action would recognize the inclusion of indigenous people in our citizenship process for new Canadians and would be an attempt at more inclusiveness towards them.
