For the majority of 2020 and now entering 2021, we have been gravely impacted by the results of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many families have had to spend time away from their families, and their loved ones, as a result of this to protect our fellow communities in Ontario, whether that be in Toronto, Hamilton, Oshawa, or anywhere in between. (and of course, nationwide)

As a result of this, I do believe we are in grave danger. The Ontario government has not provided enough sufficient funding and care for the Canadian citizens of Ontario who have had their mental health impacted by this pandemic and the resources will only continue to be neglected without an increase in care, awareness, and more strategic resources allocated towards our mental health online crisis hotlines.

I like many others have been greatly impacted, most non-essential businesses have been forced to close due to a circumstance that is totally out of their control, and for a global pandemic frankly, no one was prepared for.

This impact has SIGNIFICANTLY decreased the mental health of our Canadian citizens, and our current system is not prepared nor equipped to handle the rise of mental health cases in Ontario, and as a result, I do fear we may be in danger of seeing suicide rates increase drastically.

I believe Doug Ford and Justin Trudeau respectively need to take a hard look at the resources allocated to our mental health system here in Ontario and take into consideration how the global pandemic is going to affect our mental stability going into this year.

I suggest an allocation of increased funding be implemented by the government of Ontario as a crisis payment to our online mental health resources such as the many suicide prevention hotlines Ontario-wide and resources such as the Canadian Mental Health Association and the Mental Health Commission of Canada.

With your support and awareness, we can help show the government of Ontario and Canada that not enough is being done and that the time for action is NOW!
