Keep Canada Cold

Keep Canada Cold
Climate Crisis is a crisis and should be treated as such. We need to implement changes to reduce the effects of climate change locally and nation-wide. Without government officials stepping in to make these bigger changes, we don’t stand a chance on our own. Separating plastics and recyclables is simply not enough, although still helpful. We should all be working to reduce our carbon footprint, however it’s time that our elected government officials listen to our pleas and the cries of the earth. Half of our country is on fire. By 2050 it is estimated that the earth will heat up by a projected 1.5 degrees Celsius. That will be an unmanageable increase, causing rising sea levels, food shortages, more heat waves, and even more fires nation wide. The time to take action was years ago, but we can lessen these consequences by taking actions NOW.
This petition calls on our government officials to hold accountable industrial companies for their horrific acts against the environment, not only holding them accountable, but forcing them to make greener decisions, lessening their CO2 emissions, waste, and overall carbon footprint. If these companies refuse to comply with regulations to lessen their negative impact on the environment, then fines should be issued until they do so.
At the federal level of authority, they need to be concerned with how and what factories/buildings emit into the atmosphere and it should be controlled.
This petition also call on our elected officials to implement projects to reduce CO2 by planting grass on top of government and city owned buildings. What this does is pull CO2 from the air and gives us better air quality, lessening city smog and air pollution. It also absorb light, in turn, absorbing heat, helping to keep out cities cooler.
Another project I would like to see implemented would be painting streets, sidewalks, and driveways white as white absorbs the least amount of light, therefore absorbing less heat.
Lastly, I would like a nationwide planting project. Removing dead trees where applicable to reduce the chance of forest fires, and planting new healthy trees to give us back our plentiful forests filled with life. Without sustainable ecosystems we, the human race as a whole, will not thrive. Inclusive to the planting of trees would be community garden projects accessible to everyone. There are so many parks in my town alone with so much unused space that a garden not only benefits the community as a whole, especially those who struggle financially, but it is beneficial to the soils as well.
So much government funding goes to things that we don’t ask for, we elected these officials to speak on our behalf but are they really speaking for us? Building new schools, tearing down more forests, when there are so many schools that go unused and could be repurposed instead. This is just one example where funding is extremely misguided, and actually detrimental to our society, We NEED forests.
To the government: stop destroying our home to fit your personal agendas, we CHOSE YOU, and it’s time that you start listening to your people and the needs of the earth. We are desperately calling on you to make changes to safeguard our futures, and our children’s futures, and our grandchildren’s futures, and every generation after. The time for change is RIGHT NOW. Stop standing by idly while our home is being destroyed, use the voice we gave to you when we elected you and STAND for your country and your people! This is no longer “just” an environmental issue, this is a health and safety issue for the entire nation.
Please sign this petition in support of this environmental movement. I personally will be collecting hard signatures on top of these electronic ones and will deliver it personally to parliament if I have to. I am tired of watching our country burn, a country that is known for its chilly weather and beautiful landscapes. A country known for caring about their neighbour. Support this Keep Canada Cold movement and let’s bring back the beauty of this nation.
