RCMP officer punching and tackling an Alberta First Nations chief during an arrest in March.

Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation Chief Allan Adam said that he was leaving a casino in Fort McMurray, Alta. when officers confronted and harassed him, his wife and his niece about an expired licence plate tag.

This is absolutely disgusting. This is not just an American problem but also a Canadian one!!!

Statistics Canada only reports police involved violence & deaths once officers who are responsible have been charged. Unfortunately, it is rare that victims of police brutality get the justice they deserve. Many many officers never do get charged. This results in a gross lack of information, data, and transparency on police violence in Canada. This especially affects Canadian people of colour, who are disproportionally manhandled by police, but as a result of the lack of systematic accountability, proper training, proper data, Canadians are grossly misinformed!!! We pretend that is merely an American problem. It is time that we wake up and acknowledge reality!

Awareness is essential for change and for justice.
