Israeli Impunity Must End

Israeli Impunity Must End

The Palestinian leadership has recently submitted a referral to the International Criminal Court (ICC), calling on prosecutors to open an immediate investigation into what it called “Israeli crimes in the occupied Palestinian territories.” The referral addresses a myriad of issues, including settlement expansion, land grabs, as well as the brutal and calculated targeting of unarmed protesters, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

It doesn’t matter what your political beliefs or interests are, the gross violation of human rights should not be tolerated by our global community.

As president Trump unilaterally declares Jerusalem the capital of Israel, and as illegal Israeli settlements continue to grow, non-violent Palestinian protesters - who have been pushed off their land - are being shot and killed. These are not opinions, they are facts.

On May 14th, 62 unarmed Palestinian protesters were killed in the Gaza Strip, in what human rights groups have described as a massacre.

The UN human rights chief points out that “Israel’s failure to consistently prosecute violations committed by members of its security forces, encourages them to use deadly force against their fellow unarmed human beings, even when they present no threat.”

Canada officially recognizes the Palestinian right to self-determination and supports a comprehensive, just and lasting peace settlement. Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland has also stated our country is “deeply concerned” by the violence in the Gaza Strip.”

We ask Canada to publicly support Palestine’s referral to the ICC, making the Israeli government accountable for its actions.  We ask our government to take this stand which aligns with Canadian values and with international law.

This is not about taking sides, it’s about accountability. You can sign and share this petition to support the fair treatment of all States that violate human rights, independent of political ideology.
