Jeannette Floyd started this petition to Justin Trudeau

Since 1919, at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month at the request of King George "all work, all sound, all locomotion should cease, so that in perfect stillness the thoughts of every one may be concentrated on reverent remembrance of the glorious dead.”  We lower the flag to pay respect those who have given their lives in service of our country.

This year Canadian flags have flown at half mast since May in reverence to the discovery of horror of unmarked burial sites found at former residential schools.  The flags have have stayed at half mast since.

There's no sign that Prime Minister Trudeau intends to raise them in time to honour Memorial Day.  When questioned by a CBC reporter, a spokesperson for Veterans Affairs Minister Lawrence MacAulay says the flag "will be raised at a further date, which will be determined in partnership by Canadian officials and Indigenous communities.".  We as Canadians, indigenous and non-indigenous  deserve to have our voices heard and to decide if we intend to break our promise to remember our heroes.

The flag has added significance for veterans, because they raise and lower it every day during their time in service.

In the words of a retired naval officer and the son of a residential school survivor "If the flags are already at half-mast, I think we will lose the significance of their contribution, and their service to this country."

DO NOT FORGET THOSE WHO
FOUGT AND DIED FOR CANADA
HOIST THE FLAG AND LOWER IT IN MEMORY
ON NOVEMBER 11th.
