As of March 12, 2020 Covid-19 has infected over 125,000 people worldwide. It has also killed over 4,500 people. Although many have recovered, there has still been an increase in new cases in North America and abroad.

We, Canadians, should learn from the decisions and actions taken in other countries (some too late) in order to put into effect more forceful preventative measures immediately in order to contain the virus before it spreads further in our communities and country.

Medical professionals are stating that those with compromised immune systems are at a greater risk of contracting the Covid-19. We all know someone with a compromised immune system. Our children, parents, grandparents and friends are all at risk and we should not wait until someone we know gets this virus before acting.

We do follow the guidelines for staying healthy, what about those that don't? The employee that can't afford to stay home, the student that goes to school sick, those returning from trips abroad and not self-quarantining and those that simply may not care. "Encouraging" citizens to make the right decision may not be the way to go. One may not have fever or symptoms today, but what about in 3 days? Where has that person been in those 3 days?

Now is the time for our Government leaders to impose more restrictive measures.
