Why this petition matters

A letter to the Prime Minister and the Government of Canada
The time for apologies has long passed and the time for true and meaningful action is upon us. In December 2015, the TRC released its entire 6-volume final report, yet we have not even scratched the surface of doing what is needed to address the issues that are glaringly obvious in our First Nations communities across Canada.
The recent discovery of 215 children in a mass grave at a residential school in Kamloops, British Columbia requires more than a moment of silence, some lowered flags and lip service. It requires action. It requires investigation of ALL residential schools. It requires that all churches and their representatives be investigated for their role in this abuse and held criminally accountable.
The continued denial and lack of action regarding the genocide of our First Nations peoples that continues to this day is unacceptable. This is an URGENT crisis that must be addressed immediately. This also includes the investigation of the current situation of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG) and the forced sterilization of Indigenous women which the government still has not responded to adequately.
The Canadian government has failed our First Nations community. The people of Canada must raise our voices so that they are no longer silenced. Our voices are stronger together. We must speak for the children who were silenced and lost. It is the absolute duty as a Canadian and a human being to do so. We can no longer stay silent and not hold some responsibility.
We are signing this petition to let the Prime Minister and our Canadian government know that we want IMMEDIATE action and funding provided to:
1. Work with First Nations communities to identify their needs and rights.
2. Launch an immediate investigation of all residential schools in Canada for mass graves.
3. Agree to the conditions and needs brought forth by First Nations Communities so that they may adequately help their communities with essential needs in water, housing, child welfare, and justice.
4. Parliament will immediately prioritize the Truth an Reconciliation Report and the actions outlined as previous agreed to and promised by the Prime Minister.
In Solidarity,
All individual citizen who have signed this petition in support of it’s call to action
