Demand the Government End the OPSEU Strike

We are well into the second week of the OPSEU strike and we are not close to a resolution. Yes a provincial-appointed mediator was brought in. At this point they will only schedule bargaining meetings when the mediator is convinced that one or the other party is ready to change a position, inviting the parties to the bargaining table. The Colleges seem the be unwilling to participate in the bargaining process. The fact is that the Colleges and the union remain far apart on a number of key issues, specifically full-time faculty ratios and academic freedom.
Mediation is clearly not working. Demand that the Government hire an arbitrator that will look at the facts and make a formal decision on each of the points of contention. At this point we can not trust that the Colleges will come to a fair agreement with the Union in the near future. While faculty observes their right to strike students are suffering. Everyday that goes by where bargaining does not happen is a waste of students time and money. Many students pay for their own education and are going into debt while the Colleges refuse compromise.
