We need to bring awareness to ADHD.

This is a life altering diagnosis. It can effect social, mental, physical, and academic areas.

children with the diagnosis of ADHD will most likely go through life without early intervention assistance and tools to help assist throughout the rest of their lives.

All because lack of funding. Did you know that ASD families receive 22k in funding yearly to the family until the age of 6, for therapies, tools and supports at home. They are also assigned “coding” which places therapies and EA’s with them to support throughout the school year in the classroom. After 6 they receive 6k a year, and are still set up with appropriate supports at school.

What type of funding does ADHD receive you might wonder? NONE. Families are forced to pay out of pocket which looks to the tune of $1,500 for the initial on boarding and testing as well as setting up a plan. Following this you can expect to pay $90-$160/hr for the therapy to implement this plan which is recommended multiple times a week for at least an hr. They also don’t automatically receive any therapies through school nor an EA, it’s more of a wait and see approach. A lot of families are forced to go into debt trying to get their kids needed therapies, or they simply need to go without. Children should never need to go without help that hinders them in daily life.

ADHD is more than just “let them burn it off” “they are just a troubled/tough/stubborn kid” “boys will be boys” “just spend more time with them” and the many more responses you seam to hear when mentioning ADHD. It can effect your social skills, it can effect your daily living in the way of personal care by yourself, it can have major overwhelming meltdowns, it can have over stimulated sensory issues that can alter things you do, it can have needed necessary schedules and routines, it can have the need for front loading, it can have a breakdown in communication which is the basis of all learning and understanding, it can sometimes not understand social cues... this is just the tip of the iceberg for issues a child might face. you can’t put it in a one size fits all. But I can say it is a huge difference and in need of proper funding.

Make a change! if you know or are someone who suffers with ADHD, you know how difficult it can be. Kids need the support, they need the tools.

EARLY INTERVENTION IS KEY!

we need proper funding for families and in schools. We need ADHD to be recognized. We need to help our kids!

Please sign and share. We CAN make a difference! YOU Can make a difference.

Sincerely,

A concerned citizen, a concerned mother, and an # ADHD ADVOCATE
