Matthew Adams started this petition to Justin Tomlinson MP (Minister of State)

Being a disabled man who uses a wheelchair I am petitioning the Minister for disabled people to ban the online sale of Radar Keys that are used for opening accessible toilets. Currently anyone can go online to sites like Amazon and Ebay and buy one of these keys with no questions asked, this means that its open for anyone to purchase one even if they don't have a disability. How can it be allowed that these keys can be purchased without there being any checks on who is buying them.

Accessible toilets are the only way for many disabled people to be able to go to the toilet when they're out in public so its very important that they can access these facilities. I have seen reviews on the sites mentioned above from able-bodied people who have bought these keys boasting about not having to queue anymore because they can now access the accessible toilets. Its unacceptable that these people are blocking the facilities that are so vital for many disabled people just because it aids their own convenience. Many disabled people cant access a standard toilet like the rest of the population and also some need to be able to go quickly as they cant hold it in for long periods. Its unfair on those people if the toilet is being used by someone who can use the standard toilets meaning they have to wait, unfortunately sometimes they cant wait.

The only way someone should be able to purchase one of these keys is with proof of disability or other proof as to why they require the use of the accessible toilets. I believe that these keys should only be available from your local council or through a mobility shop. Please sign this petition so we can make sure that only those with a genuine need are able to purchase these keys and keep the accessible toilets free for those who require them. Thank you.
