Reopen my mother's case which is now a cold case this is the original article May 7,2007 Monday morning 40-year-old Dorothy Jean McReynolds and her 19-year-old daughter, Kelly Brooks, were both shot by a gunman dressed in black while inside of their home on the 1900 block of Coolidge Street. Police said the women may have been targeted by the gunman and detectives are currently trying to determine the identity o f the suspect, but they did say Billy James Lewis was a person of interest they wanted to talk to about this shooting. According to police, McReynolds was scheduled to testify in an armed robbery case against Lewis this week.Tuesday night, police announced his arrest and charged him with violation of pre-trial release.McReynold's was shot multiple times, including once in the head. Officials told CBS-4's Liv Davalos that McReynold's injuries have left her "basically brain dead." She remains in critical condition at Memorial Regional Hospital. Brooks, who was shot in the leg, remains in fair condition.Police initially thought the shooting was a home invasion, but since it is unclear if anything was taken from the home, detectives are looking into whether the suspect targeted the victims.Police say they have been called to disturbances at the home in the past.
