With each new week that breaks in Nigeria, I can’t help but wonder what new low we are going to sink to as a nation. On Sunday, June 5, 2022, faithfuls attending church service at St Francis Catholic Church, Ondo state, breathed their last when cowards dressed as congregants detonated explosives, gunned down worshippers and abducted some survivors. 

As usual, messages of condemnation from those in government flooded the internet, as well as pictures of political figures paying condolence visits. The time for ‘business as usual’ is over. 

Terrorists and terrorism now wears a bold and overt face in Nigeria, due to the apparent docile nature of our so called leaders, who by the way, still held their political primaries while the nation they claim to be so passionate about is bleeding. 

There were two tragedies on Sunday June 5 2022, the Owo massacre and the Kwara state abduction and all we hear is ‘the perpetrators will be brought to book’. I have had my fill of these ‘rinse and repeat’ gestures. 

I am therefore calling on the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to assume URGENT responsibility and bring these terrorists, among others to book, as a matter of urgency. 

The abductees of the Abuja-Kaduna massacre, are still in captivity after almost 3 months. Survivors of the Owo massacre are also being held captive and those kidnapped by the terrorists in Kwara state have also joined the fray. What will it take for you to wake up and defend the lives of the citizens you swore to protect when you took your oath of office?

It is for this reason, that i am calling on the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to assume URGENT responsibility and bring these terrorists to book. We have had enough and the time to act is NOW!
