In a horrific and senseless crime, a tiny newborn kitten was allegedly stomped to death at a train station in Belleville, Illinois.

The accused man, Decalos Edwards Johnson-Foston, was trying to board a MetroLink train with the kitten on his shoulder. But a security guard told Johnson-Foston that he couldn’t bring the kitten onboard.

Johnson-Foston hurled the kitten onto the ground, and before anyone could react, he stomped on the kitten’s head, killing the innocent animal. He then jumped onto a bus to flee the scene, and was apprehended and arrested at the next bus station.

Onlookers were shocked by what they saw.

“All of us were angry at the individual who did this, because it was a senseless act of violence toward this animal,” witness Michael Hesse told the Belleville News-Democrat. “It was a newborn kitten — one of the women on the train even said she would take the cat.”

Johnson-Foston was charged with aggravated cruelty to animals, which is a Class 4 felony. He is currently in custody in the St. Clair County Clair on a $75,000 bond.

Johnson-Foston committed a horrific act of animal cruelty, and needs to be given a sentence that fits his crime -- including a lifelong ban on owning any animals.
