On September 7th Brian the owner of this beautiful dog made a Facebook post saying he would kill the dog if he could not find a new home for him. Due to the dog not listening and being aggressive with other dogs and cats.

Many People tried to aid in finding the dog a new home however  Brian was hot and cold when it came to being cooperative. We later learned that the dog was aggressive due to abuse  from Brian  himself. Brian Took the dog on a hunting trip, where the dog went after a sheep and killed it.

We pleaded with Brian to take the dog to the pound or give him to someone who would help train the aggression out,  however his exact words were “A Bullet would be cheaper” and he ended up killing the Dog.  Charges for killing a dog without legal justification can be found under Utah Code § 76-9-301. According to this statute, killing a dog is considered animal cruelty. However when local authorities were contacted no charges could be made  because local authorities said  he killed his own dog and in Utah you have the right to shoot your own dog as if they were cattle. However we could not find this law anywhere. We only saw a law stating you can only  shoot a dog  if they are currently trying to attack you or your family/ pets.

However this is not a legal shooting because you are not allowed to shoot a dog for past aggressive behavior. If one has control over the dog then you can not shoot them.  Brian had control over the Dog well before he decided to shoot the Abused Animal in cold blood. If someone can beat and shoot their own animal down even when there is a community willing to help them. What else would they do? How do they handle conflict with humans and animals? .

If we don’t prosecute he could do it again, animal abusers are multiple time offenders and many more animals could be hurt 
we have made this petition to get justice for this poor baby, by getting  the authorities to start an investigation into the illegal shooting of this abused animal and to make it Illegal if it’s not already to shoot your own dog as if they were cattle. If we win we could save countless animal lives from Abusive owners who want to assert their authority over there animals to violence and even death without any repercussions.
