JUSTICE FOR KDIEREA WILSON - DISCRIMINATION AT ANDREW COLLEGE

JUSTICE FOR KDIEREA WILSON - DISCRIMINATION AT ANDREW COLLEGE
My daughter K’dierea Wilson has been a Nursing Student at Andrew College since 2020. She was scheduled to graduate from Andrew College in Cuthbert, GA on this Saturday, May 07, 2022. She has passed her Nursing Exit Exam and made the highest grade on the final exam. She missed class and a test on February 01, 2022. She had a drs excuse and was told that she could not makeup the test because it’s stated in the syllabus that Andrew does not accept drs excuses. Her paternal grandfather passed away on January 25, 2022. She was not allowed to attend his funeral due to clinicals which is clearly stated in the syllabus that she could miss 1 clinical. The instructor who is not certified stated to her and the other students that they were not allowed to makeup clinical so therefore she missed his funeral. She has been diagnosed with Anxiety and Depression by a Licensed Mental Health Professional. She is on medication for this condition and she told the instructor abt the medication. She gets bad anxiety when she is under pressure and stress so therefore during testing, her anxiety is triggered. When she informed the instructor of this the instructor stated to her that maybe the meds will kick in by the time she takes the test, or she had the option to withdraw from the program, when in fact the instructor should’ve made accommodations for her per the ADA (American With Disabilities Act) and she has been discriminated against also. Not only was she not allowed to makeup the test, she was not given any accomodations to aid her with her testing. The Dean of Academic Affairs nor the President of the College will speak with us regarding the appeal. The Director of Nursing at Andrew who is also the Dean of Nursing at another University in the Atlanta area denied the appeal and stated that it was final. There are so so many other documented events that have taken place during this entire process, from bullying, pettiness, mocking, etc. I want my daughter to be given a fair chance to complete the course just like everyone else. We did not ask them to just let her graduate, we simply asked them to allow her to take her test so that she can earn the grade to graduate. Andrew College needs to be held accountable for their discriminatory practices against students with disabilities and students of color. Please join in with me and sign this petition so that they will allow her to take her test and give her the degree in which she has worked so hard for the last 2 1/2 years for.
