Prevent the destruction of Jeter Hall on the University of Montevallo campus

In the fall of 2015, Jeter Hall will turn 100 years old, but as it stands now, it may not make it past 99. Jeter Hall is being threatened by the invasion of outside developers in conjunction with the University of Montevallo, who could partially or completely destroy a building that is so vital to the historical heritage of this university and turn it into a 50 room hotel. This is unacceptable.
We stand firmly against the notion that Montevallo lose a building that has been a part of the tradition of this school and the tradition of every student and alumni since 1915. We propose that instead of using the space for a hotel (as the campus already contains one in the Ramsay hotel and conference center) Jeter goes through an internal renovation by becoming updated for modern day classes and outfitted to be handicapped accessible. The university is constantly growing and changing, and Jeter could be a part of that expansion by hosting new classes and offices for departments as well as student organizations. It deserves a place in Montevallo's future fitting the one that it has taken in its past, not as pieces of rubble in an impersonal hotel.
