57-year-old Sureshbhai Patel was visiting his son and newborn grandson in Madison, Alabama. He did not know much English.

When he was simply taking a stroll in the neighborhood on Feb 6th, 2015, a harmless activity, 911 was called saying a “suspicious person” was walking around the neighborhood. A police car then arrived at 8:18 am, and stopped and questioned Mr. Patel.

However, 2:20 min into the video, Alabama police officer Eric Parker uses excessive and unnecessary force to slam down Mr. Patel to the ground and arrests him. Check https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9Vgqe0SBLM

Mr.Patel was then hospitalized and partially paralyzed from the incident.

After a failed civil right case, 2 mistrials, now U.S. District Judge Madeline Haikala dismisses the case and acquits the officer, AND NO JUSTICE HAS BEEN SERVED.

This is absolutely unacceptable: partially paralyzing someone is a criminal offense and should be treated like so.

As other police brutality cases are receiving justice, so should this one. Let's fight for justice, and get this forgotten story national attention.

Hold the police officers accountable for their clear abuse of power and any related issues of profiling.

**Update 6/17/2020** Mr.Patel's lawsuit from 2015 was approved to move forward a few weeks ago!!

About the author:

Hi, I’m Ryan, a student from the Bay Area who was frustrated at the number of social justice issues that are rarely covered by main-stream media (most of these issues involve minorities in America). I started making TikTok's during quarantine about social justice issues, such as the case of Emmitt Till, Vincent Chin, and Danny Chen, and it has been so fulfilling to be able to teach ppl and share these important stories and legal cases with my TikTok audience. Now, I am creating an organization, The Forgotten Stories Project, so I can make an impact in the world greater than myself by continually spreading stories that are largely forgotten but are crucial to history, join me in this journey by pming me or emailing forgottenstoriesproject@gmail.com.
