Ms. Dwyer, a beloved NCMS 6th grade science teacher was fired due to an untrue accusation. She was accused of harassing both a student and a teacher. This accusation was completely untrue and what truly happened is devastating. Another teacher was uncomfortable because of a lesson that was being taught including LGBTQIA+ And many students told Ms. Dwyer that the teacher didn’t welcome them into the class, those students were apart of the LGBTQIA+ community. She confronted the teacher in the privacy of the teachers lounge. The other teacher took this as ‘harassment’ and told the principle about it. The principle took the other teacher’s side.  A few months after, a student called another student homophobic callings and the student that was being called the slurs told Ms. Dwyer. She also heard the student that was saying those awful things was also body shaming both Ms. Dwyer and other students. She talked to this kid twice and the student told their parents. They had a meeting between Ms. Dwyer and the parents and they accused her of harassing their child. These events led up to the Cumberland school department choosing to fire Ms. Dwyer. Ms. Dwyer was also apparently struggling with mental health issues as well including depression.
