Police say Benjamin Link of Jacksonville, North Carolina, is charged with two counts animal cruelty and two counts disposition of dead domesticated animals after he drown two puppies and threw them away in a dumpster. The puppies, one pit bull and one pit-lab mix, had hardly begun their lives as they were only between two and eight weeks of age. It’s nearly impossible to imagine what death-deserving crime these puppies committed. They struggled to take breath after breath but stood no chance as Link held them under, their lungs filling with more and more water. Imagine how long these babies fought for their lives; now imagine the man that held them under, only to throw away their lifeless bodies in a nearby dumpster. If these puppies were sick, a logical person would have taken them to a vet and have them humanely euthanized. If there were financial hardships and these puppies’ care had become too expensive, a logical person would have taken them to an animal shelter. But neither of these things happened: they were tortured and killed in an inhumane way. As if all of this wasn’t enough, Link is also being charged with assaulting a government official after he head butted his arresting officer. Link is currently sitting in Onslow County Jail in Jacksonville, North Carolina on a $25,000 bond. This petition asks that, if Benjamin Link is convicted of the aforementioned charges, he be charged with the maximum penalty allowed by law.
