Why this petition matters

In the largest ever wage theft case involving a residential care facility for the elderly in California, 148 residential care workers must be paid back over $8.5 million in stolen wages, violations, and penalties, according to a decision issued by the California Labor Commissioner’s Office.

Following a years-long investigation, Adat Shalom Board & Care was ordered to pay workers. The workers, the majority of whom are Pilipino immigrants, worked 24-hour shifts six days per week for as little as $2.40/hour with no overtime.

The judgment totals more than $8.5 million and in part include:

  • minimum wages owed
  • Over $1.9 million for overtime wages owed
  • Over $2.5 million in liquidated damages for failure to pay the minimum wage (When workers are paid less than minimum wage, they are entitled to liquidated damages that equal the amount of underpaid minimum wages plus interest.)
  • $152,440 for meal period wages owed

We need to put pressure on the owners to do the right thing and pay the workers the wages that they rightfully deserve. Sign this petition to show your support!
